Lorentz Room

The Thorbecke Room is on the ground floor and looks out on Kloveniersburgwal.

There is a long table that can seat 15. The room is named after the Dutch statesman Johan Rudolf Thorbecke (1798-1872), who was closely involved in establishing the Netherlands’ 1848 constitution. Thorbecke was a member of the Royal Institute, the forerunner of the Academy, and as Minister of Foreign Affairs he played an important role in the Academy’s history. The Academy’s Thorbecke Fund supports research into his life and work.
