The Wadden Academy aims to identify gaps in our knowledge of the Wadden Sea Region, to programme research and to disseminate the outcome. The research areas are: geology, ecology, society and cultural history, social and spatial economics, urban and rural planning and climate and water.
The Wadden Academy is a compact, facilitating organisation with a solid scientific basis. The Wadden Academy specifically aims to achieve the Wadden Fund's objective 'to develop a sustainable knowledge structure for the Wadden Sea Region'.
The Wadden Academy focuses specifically on synergies between different areas of research. Its responsibilities include providing information about the Wadden Sea Region and encouraging knowledge-sharing between parties.
It works closely with scientific and civil-society organisations, policy advisory bodies, and regional, national and international authorities.

The Wadden Academy’s first evaluation has been scheduled for 2014 according to the SEP-protocol. Once a evaluation has taken place, the Academy will publish the relevant documents on this page.

The Wadden Academy was established in 2008. In 2010, it employed 3.5 FTEs. It is funded by the Wadden Fund and the Dutch Province of Friesland.
