The ICIN Netherlands Heart Institute (ICIN) is an alliance between the eight university cardiology departments in the Netherlands. They work together to coordinate, support and conduct research into the causes and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
The ICIN recruits patients from the participating university medical centres for its clinical studies and carries out basic research in the laboratories of university cardiology departments and research institutes. This approach allows it to maximise its research output with only a minimum of staff and resources.
Since 2001, it has worked closely with the Academy’s Hubrecht Institute on research into the developmental biology of the heart.
A committee of international experts will be evaluating the Institute in 2012. As soon as the evaluation has been completed, the Academy will publish the relevant documents on this page.
