The Spinoza Centre for Neuroimaging manages and develops scanning equipment for research purposes. It operates a research-dedicated 3T and 7T fMRI scanner and advises researchers on their use. The Spinoza Centre and its partners have together drawn up a research programme that defines the nature, direction and quality standards of its activities. There is considerable scope in that programme for methodological development and collaboration projects.
The Spinoza Centre was established in 2008. It is the result of a partnership between the Academy, the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience (NIN), the University of Amsterdam and its medical centre, and VU University Amsterdam and its medical centre, and the Leiden University Medical Center.
University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences began using the first scanner (the 3T) in May 2010. It is likely to use the 7T in the course of 2014.
