Advisory councils and committees make an important contribution to the Academy’s statutory advisory task.
There are five advisory councils that assist the Academy in providing advice in five broad disciplinary areas. The five advisory councils also play a significant role in drawing up and implementing the Academy’s overall advisory agenda. The Executive Board has also installed various committees that consider specific subjects, for example education, scientific ethics, and integrity.
The members of the Academy’s advisory councils and committees are scientists and scholars representing universities, research institutes, civil-society organisations, and business and industry. Some are members of the Academy and some are not. This makes it possible to involve a large and varied group of experts in preparing the Academy’s advisory reports.
