Van der Gaag Foundation

The Van der Gaag Foundation promotes outstanding and socially relevant research on the biological, psychological and social determinants of human behaviour. The purpose of the research must be to improve interpersonal relationships and human behaviour.

The Foundation was established by J.M. Verhoog in 1988 and transferred to the Academy in 1993.

It is responsible for endowing three chairs in research on 'prosocial behaviour'.

  • As of 1 April 2012, Gerben van Kleef holds a chair 'social and organisational-psychological aspects of prosocial behaviour' at the University of Amsterdam.
  • As of 1 November 2012, Judith Dubas has been holding an endowed chair in ‘Developmental psychology aspects of prosocial behaviour’ at Utrecht University.
  • As of 1 January 2013, René Bekkers has been holding an endowed chair in ‘Sociological aspects of prosocial behaviour’ at VU University Amsterdam.
  • As of 1 April 2013, Liesbeth Sterck will be holding an endowed chair in ‘Behavioural ecological determinants of prosocial behaviour’ at Utrecht University.
