The International Council for Science (ICSU) promotes international scientific activities for the benefit of society and humanity.
The ICSU is the only global organisation that speaks on behalf of the entire scientific community, although the social sciences are marginally represented. It collaborates increasingly with the International Social Science Council (ISSC), which is also headquartered in Paris. Among the ICSU’s long-standing, highly influential programmes is the World Climate Research Programme.
The Academy participates in the ISCU’s global environmental change programmes. The ICSU has produced a new strategic plan in 2011 covering the 2012-2017 period.
