The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has announced the appointment of Prof. Alexander van Oudenaarden as co-director at the Hubrecht Institute per January 2012.

Van Oudenaarden is currently Professor of Biology and Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, USA. He also is director of the Center for Single-Cell Dynamics in Cancer at MIT. Van Oudenaarden holds an impressive list of awards and honours including the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award and a Guggenheim fellowship.

The research of the Van Oudenaarden group will strengthen the current stem cell research at the Hubrecht Institute. It will further improve the Institute’s ranking in the field of stem cell research in cancer and regenerative medicine.
