The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Foundation for the Advancement of Tropical Research (NWO-WOTRO) and the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Technology (MoRT) co-operate in the field of Research, Science and Technology and are represented in the Joint Working Committee for Scientific Co-operation between Indonesia and the Netherlands (JWC).

The JWC organises regular Open Science Meetings on Indonesian - Netherlands scientific co-operation.

The fifth Open Science Meeting was be organised in November 2009 in the Netherlands. The theme was Science, Innovation and Valorisation.

The fourth Open Science Meeting was held on 19 and 20 November 2007 at Bali in Indonesia and was hosted by the Eijkman Institute in cooperation with the Wallacea Foundation and the Hasanuddin University in Makassar. The theme was 'Towards a Sustainable World'.

The third Open Science Meeting was held from 27-29 September 2005 in Indonesia and was hosted by the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI).

The second Open Science Meeting was organised on 1 and 2 September 2003 in Jakarta, Indonesia, hosted by MoRT. The theme of this meeting was Back to the Future and aimed at showing the impact of scientific co-operation over the last decades on science, technology and modern society, especially in Indonesia.

The first Open Science Meeting was organised on 12 February 2002 in Bandung, Indonesia, hosted by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). The occasion was the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding for scientific co-operation between Indonesia and the Netherlands on 11 February 2002. The subject of this meeting was the Scientific Programme Indonesian - Netherlands
