Under the auspices of SPIN, KNAW launched a programme for post-doctoral research in Indonesia to stimulate young Indonesian PhDs to develop further as researchers and to improve the scientific environment in Indonesia. The overall objective of the SPIN Postdoc Programme is to embed Indonesian postdocs in Indonesia's science system by providing postdoc positions for outstanding Indonesian PhD-graduates based at Indonesian universities or research institutes. The primary dimensions of capacity building that this programme aims to address include: The creation of scientific career opportunities; The strengthening of emergent and existing scientific excellence; The fostering of scientific curiosity and an academic culture in Indonesia; The promotion of (inter)national scientific networking; The taking-up of an international research tradition; The utilisation of international funding.
