Stockholm City Museum, Stockholms stadsmuseum

The object of the Stockholm City Museum is to document and bring alive Stockholm and the history of its inhabitants. The Museum acts as the City Council's authority in relation to town planning proposals, rebuilding, demolition and other changes to the cityscape. Inventories of valuable buildings and archaeological sites are part of the work. The growing collections and the information gleaned from these, form the core of the Museum. In addition to its objects, the Stockholm City Museum has an extensive photo-collection and archives , which are open to the general public. In 1998 160,000 visitors came to the exhibitions.
