Advances in technology and changes in society are raising a growing number of questions about the ethical and legal aspects of information science research.
A further factor is that a growing number of disciplines are making use of large, often privacy-sensitive data sets.
The purpose of this advisory report is to provide a framework for assessing the ethical, legal and security aspects of research in information science and related studies. In the first instance, this involves assessing:
- research on the security of networks, computer systems and access to the same;
- the collection and use of large, often privacy-sensitive data sets (‘big data’), as is customary in a growing number of disciplines.
The report was published in September 2016.
