|Aim of programme||The CAS-KNAW Joint PhD Training Programme offered outstanding Chinese and Dutch PhD candidates the possibility of PhD training. The PhD projects were developed within the context of proven successful joint research projects between Chinese Academy of Sciences Institutes and Dutch universities and research institutes.|
Structure of programme
The programme was carried out within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
- To produce a new generation of young Chinese and Dutch scientists trained both in the Netherlands and in China. These young scientists will have first-hand knowledge of the institutions and systems in both countries and will be trained within their specific line of research. They will also benefit from the complementary expertise of the best scientists in the field in China and the Netherlands.
- To foster lasting collaboration in Sino-Dutch research networks. Joint training of PhD candidates promotes closer ties and cooperation between Dutch and Chinese research groups and researchers. It also encourages and supports more intense, long-term collaboration.
Between 2005 and 2009, 29 projects were selected. Almost all of the projects have been completed successfully.
