The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) would like to invite you to nominate individuals or teams for the 2015 Eureka Prize for Science Communication.
From 2015, the Eureka Prize for Science Communication will honour not only scientists and journalists but also individuals in other professions whose ability to communicate clearly about science has been shown to appeal to a wide audience. Both individuals and teams are eligible for the prize, which will be awarded biennially starting in 2015.
In each relevant year, two cash awards of EUR 15,000 each will go to a project or activities in the area of science communication that have been selected by the laureate. The awards ceremony will take place on 5 June 2015, during the NWO Bessensap, an annual event that brings together science and journalism. The 2013 Eureka Prize was awarded to entomologist Marcel Dicke and the team of Vroege Vogels, a Dutch radio and television series devoted to environmental and ecological topics.
The deadline for nominations for the 2015 Eureka Prize is 10 February 2015.
In awarding the Eureka Prize for Science Communication, NWO and the Academy are emphasising the importance of promoting public awareness of science and public access to scientific knowledge and understanding. The Eureka Prize is funded in part by the Van Walree Fund.
