The Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Medicine
|
|
|
Awarded since 1989 to researchers and others in the medical field,
the prize consists of a cash gift of $150,000 and a trophy designed
and produced by Simons Jewelers (The Hague), featuring the symbol
of Aesculapius.

Historically, prizes have been
awarded as follows:
1989: Dfl. 250,000
1994: Dfl. 250,000
2000: $150,000
Call for nominations
To be eligible for the Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Medicine, nominees should be active scientists who are expected to continue their research activities for at least ten years. Their achievements in the field of medical research are outstanding and have potential clinical application or have already led to an important clinical application.
The award will be presented to a single individual. No restrictions are placed on the candidate’s nationality or sex. The Academy will particularly value the nomination of women.
Deadline for nominations is 1 November 2009.

Professor Sir Richard Peto

'for his pioneering work in the field of clinical epidemiology'.
