Academy Medal

The Academy Medal is awarded every other year to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to (the advancement of) science in the Netherlands in the broadest sense. The Medal was established in 1983.

Who is it for?

Individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to (the advancement of) science in the Netherlands in the broadest sense. This may be with regard to scientific practice, Dutch (or European) science policy, or valorisation as broadly defined.

Nomination and award

The following individuals and institutions may submit nominations for the Academy Medal: members of the Academy, members of The Young Academy, members of the Society of Arts, the executive boards of Dutch universities, the executive board of the Netherlands Organisation  for Scientific Research (NWO), and the board of the National Network of Female Professors. 

Nominations must be submitted using the nomination form (in Dutch).

The deadline for submitting the nomination form is 15 January 2019. You may e-mail the form to dianne.van.avendonk@knaw.nl.

The Academy Medal award ceremony will take place in May 2019.
