Academy Ecology Fund

The Academy Ecology Fund supports ecological fieldwork in the Netherlands and abroad and ecological research abroad by young ecologists.

Funding is intended primarily for fundamental research. Projects seeking a fundamental solution to practical problems are also eligible.

The assets of the Academy Ecology Fund (formerly: the Schure-Beijerinck-Popping Fund) consist of the estates of Ms G. Beijerinck-Popping and Ms Dr P.S.J. Schure.

What does it cover?

  • The Fund will cover part of the cost of collecting ecological data in the field in the Netherlands and abroad.
  • The Fund will cover part of the cost of ecological research conducted at foreign institutes.



Who is it for?

Researchers who are eligible to apply for Academy Ecology Fund Grants are:

  • PhD candidates at a university or research institute in the Netherlands;
  • researchers who were awarded a PhD no more than four years ago. This period is subject to the Academy Extension Arrangement.
  • researchers who are employed at a university or research institute in the Netherlands.

How to apply?

Due to the global uncertainty arising from the corona crisis, applicants are asked to check their employers' and government's guidelines for any application involving travel and research abroad and clearly state in their application that this has been cleared with their employers and if possible suggest mitigation measures for potential cancellation of international project components.

You cannot submit applications at this time. A new application round will open in the autumn of 2021.
