Academy Van der Gaag Grants

The Academy Fund for Behavioural Research makes the Academy Van der Gaag Grants available to promising researchers who are studying the biological, psychological and social determinants of human behaviour. Researchers at a Dutch institute can apply for a grant to cover a research project abroad or a working visit to a foreign institution.

The Van der Gaag Fund was established by J.M. Verhoog in 1988 and transferred to the Academy in 1993. It is also responsible for endowing four chairs in research on ‘prosocial behaviour’ for a period of five years.

What does the Fund cover?

The Fund covers research projects or working visits abroad that make an innovative contribution to research in the Netherlands on the biological, psychological and social determinants of human behaviour. The research project or working visit abroad must be for a minimum of one and a maximum of four consecutive months.

Subject to certain conditions, the fund will cover travel expenses (round trip), accommodation abroad and a cost-of-living allowance.

For the 2019 tender, a maximum amount of € 45.000 is available.

Who is it for?

Eligible applicants are PhD students or researchers who obtained their PhD no more than four years previously. An extension arrangement (PDF) is applicable. Master’s degree students are not eligible.
