Ton van der Steen, Erasmus Medical Centre and Delft University of Technology, works at the interface between medicine and technology. He is using new techniques to attempt to detect atherosclerotic plaques. Plaque causes the arteries to narrow. A ruptured artery can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Van der Steen works with ultrasound and other technologies to improve heart disease treatment.
