Arwen Deuss uses seismology to map the Earth’s deep interior from the upper mantle to the inner core. She connects seismology with mineral physics, geodynamic modelling and geochemistry to gain a picture of the way in which the Earth’s deep interior is evolving. Deuss identified the role that temperature and chemical composition play in the behaviour of the Earth’s mantle at 520 and 660 km depth. She also used whole Earth oscillations to study the Earth’s deep interior.
