Agriculture Beyond Food
In 2009, Indonesia and The Netherlands decided to launch the joint scientific programme ‘Agriculture Beyond Food’, financed by NWO-WOTRO, KNAW and RISTEK. The aim was to gain insight in possibilities and opportunities, threats and limitations connected to the circular economy. Many developing countries, well suited for the production of biomass, face the challenge to profit from economic possibilities of the renewed interest in biomass, while not jeopardizing food security and bio-diversity. To face this challenge, it is imperative that technical, social, economic and legal scientists cooperate and that the whole production chain is considered, and that is what the Agriculture Beyond Food programme did.
