Since the first symposium in 1992, DAVS has grown into an important and well-attended event for the Dutch virology community. This year’s event will once again include the presentation of the KNAW Beijerinck Prizes for Virology.

DAVS gives both upcoming and established researchers an opportunity to share their latest findings. The presentations are selected from across the entire discipline. The aim is to address as many different aspects of virology as possible, but in the end it is the quality of the research that is the deciding factor in the selection.

The 2019 KNAW Beijerinck Prizes for Virology will be presented during the symposium, consisting of the 2019 M.W. Beijerinck Virology Prize and two Beijerinck Premiums. The winner of the Virology Prize will give the Beijerinck Lecture, while the winners of the Beijerinck Premiums will give a presentation on their work. A press release announcing the names of the prize winners will be released in mid-January 2019.

The symposium will be conducted in English.

The seminar is funded in part by the Academy’s M.W. Beijerinck Virology Fund. The DAVS is organised under the auspices of the Royal Netherlands Society for Microbiology (KNVM).
