Academy Professor Indonesia receives Indonesian research prize 2012

Professor Yunita Winarto, the first Academy Professor Indonesia in the Social Sciences, received an honourable mention in the prestigious competition for best researcher of Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2012.

Out of more than 400 eligible research-professors working at the oldest university of Indonesia, professor Winarto was awarded the first runner-up position.  Professor Winarto: 'Without the Academy Professor Indonesia grant provided by the Royal Netherlands Academy for Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Indonesian Academy of Science (AIPI), I would not have been able to achieve this.'

KNAW and AIPI applaud professor Winarto for admirably realizing the objectives of the Academy Professorship Indonesia. She was the first to be appointed Academy Professor Indonesia (from 1 September 2006 until 31 August 2011). In this capacity, she contributed to strengthening the position of sciences and arts in Indonesia and supported the fostering of scientific curiosity and an academic culture.

Last but not least, she helped create more societal awareness of the importance of science in the Indonesian community. She has conducted original research and has reported thereon in international academic publications and towards society through press releases and articles as well as multi-media projects.

On top of being honoured as one of the best researchers of Universitas Indonesia, she has also received an award by the same university for her books Bisa Dewek: Kisah Perjuangan Petani Pemula Tanaman di Indramayu and Agrometeriological Learning: Coping Better with Climate Change and also for her articles in Anthropological Forumand The Asia Pacific Journal of Anthropology.
