Academy response to Plan S

5 February 2019

The Academy has responded to Plan S for speeding up the transition to open access.

The Academy is in favour of open access and open science, with free access to articles and research data. The transition to full open access is complex. NWO and other European research funding bodies have signed Plan S that makes open access compulsory for scholars and scientists who receive grants from them.

In practice, the implementation of this plan is far from simple. For that reason, the Academy has called for a reconsideration of the further route to be followed. In its response, the Academy presents a summary of its main objections and appeals for a carefully considered approach as well as offering proposals for the possible next steps.
