The Netherlands holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January to June 2016. One of the topics that it will be dealing with during that period is ‘open science’, which includes open access to publications.
A number of meetings on that topic have been organised for various interest groups, such as university libraries, policymakers, research funding bodies, and publishers. But what has been missing so far are the voices of the researchers themselves.

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (‘the Academy’) believes it is important for those voices to be heard and therefore arranged interviews with 21 researchers on the topic of open access. The results of those interviews are recorded in the present booklet.
