The Netherlands Board on Research Integrity (LOWI) is an independent advisory body established in 2003 by the Academy, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU). The LOWI reviews possible violations of the principles of research integrity at affiliated institutions and advises the boards of these institutions accordingly.

The LOWI will only consider a complaint after a decision (or preliminary decision) has been taken by the institution where the alleged violation took place.

Members

Candidates for LOWI membership are nominated by the LOWI after consultation with the boards of the Academy, VSNU and NWO. The candidates are then appointed by these boards. Members serve a three-year term and may be re-appointed twice.
