De toekomst van de frisistiek

De KNAW fungeert als forum voor het wetenschappelijk debat en voor de uitwisseling van wetenschappelijke informatie. In dit kader organiseert de Akademie uiteenlopende bijeenkomsten, waarvan er vele vrij toegankelijk zijn voor publiek.

De Jonge Akademie is een platform van onderzoekers uit verschillende disciplines die zich bewezen hebben in hun vak. Zij organiseert activiteiten op het gebied van interdisciplinariteit, wetenschapsbeleid, internationalisering en wetenschap en maatschappij.

De KNAW is het forum, de stem en het geweten van de wetenschap in Nederland. Haar instituten behoren met hun onderzoek en hun collecties tot de (inter)nationale top. Aan de basis van al haar activiteiten ligt de overtuiging dat kennis en creativiteit de belangrijkste grondstoffen zijn voor welzijn en welvaart.

De KNAW is zowel genootschap van excellente wetenschappers als institutenorganisatie. Het bestuur van de KNAW stelt de hoofdlijnen van het beleid en de begroting vast. De dagelijkse leiding is in handen van de algemeen directeur.

The direct health effects of these environmental changes are often clear, but the indirect effects are much more difficult to study, even though they are likely to impact many more people. The De la Court Prize recognises individuals who have produced outstanding scholarly work in the social sciences or humanities without financial reward, independently and outside the established academic institutions. The prizewinner receives a monetary award of EUR 7,500.

Twelve young researchers – three from each of the Academy’s science domains – will be receiving a KNAW Early Career Award in 2024.  The prize, awarded annually for outstanding achievement, consists of a sum of EUR 15,000 and a unique work of art. The KNAW Early Career Award will be presented this year for the fifth time.

Gonda Lecture spoken by Upinder Singh, 10 June 2022. The J. Gonda Foundation supports the scholarly study of Sanskrit, other classical Indian languages and literature, and Indian cultural history. The Foundation organizes the Gonda Lecture every year, which is also published.<h2>Inscribing power on the realm: Royal ideology and religious policy in India c. 200 BCE-300 CE</h2>Upinder Singh, Professor of History, Ashoka University, Sonepat, India, argues that the fundamental template of ancient Indian political ideology and religious policy was established during the period c. 200 BCE-300 CE through a continuous dialogic process revealed in the manner in which kings inscribed their power on their realm. She does so by drawing on epigraphic evidence to focus on three themes.

Volgens dit advies heeft kunstmatige intelligentie (AI) grote potentie: het kan wetenschappelijke ontdekkingen radicaal veranderen, vooruitgang in onderzoek versnellen, innovatie stimuleren en de productiviteit van wetenschappers verbeteren.

The €35,000 monetary award and a medal will be presented at the Dutch Annual Virology Symposium (DAVS) on 10 March 2023. On the same occasion, virologist Daniel Hurdiss will receive the €25,000 Beijerinck Premium for Young Virologists.
